Course Outline
For many students, Year 9 will be the first year in which they will be studying History as an explicit subject. As such, Year 9 History is structured in a way to provide a general introduction to the skills and concepts students will encounter at IGCSE.
Unit 1: Industry and Innovation
Focusing on the concepts of innovation and revolution, students will analyse the industrial revolution and the way that this event contributed to change in our society.
Key project: A museum display on innovation and change in a country of the student's choice.
Unit 2: Empire and Development
Focusing on the concepts of perspective and global interactions, students will analyse the development of empires around the world and investigate the viewpoints of different nations.
Key project: A United Nations style debate in pairs representing different perspectives on colonisation.
Unit 3: Rebellion and Revolution
This unit will build an understanding of the reasons why people protest, how people protest and what happens as a result of protest. Students will evaluate the factors that contribute to the most change over the period of the rebellion.
Key project: A creative representation of a protest movement of student's choice.
Unit 4: War and Conflict: WW2 in Hong Kong
Focusing on the concept of significance, students will investigate the causes and impact of a War that impacted on our own city.
Key project: An extended piece of writing with primary research.
